After another flight and another story, let’s just say I didn’t book a fight beforehand and had a little problem getting out of Chiang Mai. I finally landed in Bangkok and jumped into a taxi for the 2 hour drive to the heard of Pattaya, the Walking Street.
People say that you still have not visited Pattaya (or Thailand) if you haven’t visited this street.
Ok, now the biggest challenge of the trip… How to describe this place for a mixed audience? Pattaya’s Walking Street makes Bourbon Street look like sesame Street, although Kevin Clash, the x-Elmo puppeteer would fit in. The Street is full of flashing neon lights, night clubs, massage parlors, restaurants, gogo clubs, boy clubs, hotels, bars, bars, bars and more bars from karaoke and beer gardens to discotheque and Russian night clubs. This is all before the entertainment establishments. I did not see
Ernie and Bert or Miss Piggy and the frog, but if I did I can only imagine what they would have been doing. Once you have walked the length and had some street food, the best part of the place is the people watching, OMG!
One of the many interesting things, I saw, that I can write about was watching the tourist police pulling over all the “Lady Boys”
and searching them for knives and guns (no probable cause needed) – One of the Caps (an expat from the UK) said the Lady Boys are the biggest issues on the street for tourist.
One suppress was all the Russians, this place is over fun by Russian!
Dominick – After you take Corinne fishing, I would suggest you show her the “Real Thailand”. This place is not much different from Fat Jake’s on a Friday night, should not be any real culture shock – Malone’s bars – Pattaya’s Walking Street, one in the same.
With Pattaya Bay Area being one of Asia’s largest beach resorts, I am going to hit the beach tomorrow and try to recover from my trip!
Sun and drinks on the beach next up…
