Next on the agenda was the palace of sultans, overlooking the city, Sea of Marmara, Golden Horn, and Bosporus – not a bad view (its god to be the sultan)! The line to get in was well over an hour long we almost skipped it, until Jake noticed a cash only line with only a few people and we were in!
We did a little gemstone shopping, but passed on the 86-carat diamond, we did not have room in our suitcases. We skipped the harem chambers after learning the sultan’s mother picked out the girls for him to “socialize with” – ruined the vision.
As we left the palace we walked the streets taking in the back alleyways and found a great
park that led us back to the water, Galata Bridge and eventually lunch! Lunch was what is call a “half a loaf” (Turkish fast food) AKA a fish sandwich with all the fixings – it was great along with the location. The French fries that we had with the fish were some of the best I have ever had!
